Play Therapy
We have had the pleasure of Paula Coyle (Play Therapist t/a Revivify Councilling) working with us one day a week for the past year. All the P1s and 2s got to attend Play Therapy sessions and some children from P3-7.
Paula is an integrative counsellor and Child & Adolescent Therapist incorporating play and art therapy techniques.
"Play is a vital component in every child's development and when it is used therapeutically it can offer a child a verbal way to express the mixed up feelings in a non-verbal, non-threatening way. Adults and adolescents use language to express what's upsetting them, whereas children use play. Play/ Child therapy is not like regular play which is a natural and esential part of the child's life, as play when used therapeutically helps children make sense of whatever is upsetting them, helps them deal with thier emotions more appropriately and helps them learn how to better manage relationships and conflicts, which are building blocks for their future. It can also result in a reduction in anxiety, a raised sense of confidence and self-esteem, a change in behaviour and improved relations with family, teachers and friends." Paula Coyle
Staff and parents have commented on the very positive effect the sessions with Paula have had on the children who have attended over the past year.
This has been funded through the Healthy Happy Minds Pilot Project (DE). The staff have observed the benefits that these sessions have had on our our children, especially after all the difficulties of the last couple of years and also the range of issues that children have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Happy children make happy learners!
Thank you Paula for all your hard work this year!!
